WHAT TO DO WITH OUT-OF-DATE PAINTS? - EXPERT ADVICE

In the course of cleaning in cellars and sheds, we sometimes find out-of-date paints. Even if they were adequately protected against air ingress, they are unfortunately not suitable for reuse. What to do with them?

Remember that the expiry date of the paint means that the product is safe to use. In other words, the manufacturer assures us that by the end of a certain day the paint has the appropriate properties, consistency and colour as described on the packaging. Out-of-date paint may have a bad covering, may smear, delaminate, crack or not create the coating that was originally intended to be produced.

OUT-OF-DATE WALL PAINTS MUST NOT BE DISPOSED OF IN RUBBISH.

What to do when we find out outdated paints? Where to dispose of unused or broken paint? Definitely, they must not be disposed of in the sewerage system or together with other household waste. Take them to a local waste disposal point.

LATEX PAINT OUT OF DATE - YOU CAN DRY IT!

It's a little easier to get rid of old latex paint. Solvent-free products can only be dried in the sun, e.g. by pouring paint onto a tray with chips or sand. After drying, it can be disposed of in a dustbin. It is absolutely forbidden to use this method, e.g. with out-of-date oil paint.

DISPOSAL AT THE MANUFACTURER'S PREMISES

There are also more and more often actions of accepting old and unwanted paints by their manufacturers and distributors. Such actions are most beneficial for the environment and most convenient for users. Let's check if the collection of old paint is not taking place nearby. However, let's remember that the best thing for both our pockets and the environment will be not to buy paints for stock or to use them to the end.

PAINT AT THE END OF ITS EXPIRE DATE

If you have found unspecified wall paints that will soon expire, try to use them as soon as possible. Make sure there is no surface in your home that needs refreshing. If you don't have time to paint, ask your friends and neighbors if they don't need free paint. In addition, you can take it to a nearby school, library or other facilities that require frequent maintenance work due to the many users. An additional idea is to post this information on the Internet on a page with local advertisements. There may be someone who needs your paint very much.
